Documentary Screening

What a successful screening we had today! The Fades 4 Grades boys came to the IML lab to look at the documentary that we created, and it was a really great experience for us all. They appreciated how they were portrayed in the video and we were able to take all of the footage and interviews of them and turn it into something they could understand. The main criticism that they gave us was that they would have liked more footage of everyone talking about how they felt about the community and about their teachers in the documentary.

What touched me the most about the whole experience was hearing the boys' reactions to to documentary. They all agreed that the documentary will help teach people both in Crenshaw and outside Crenshaw who they are as a group, and as individuals. One made a comment that he hopes people will see through this video that there are young guys out there who want to go to college and make something of themselves, and that it will help them get rid of preconceived stereotypes about teens from inner-city communities. My group and I definitely felt like we'd accomplished something as a result, and we formed a bond with both the boys and with Rick.
