Blog 3: Update on Francisco house
The last few weeks working at the Francisco halfway house have been extremely fulfilling. I have had the opportunity to conduct a few interviews, and with each interview I gain some new perspective. The one commonality that I have encountered throughout these diverse interviews is the sense of hope and optimism that everyone shares. Every guy in the house truly wants to do better and wants to do great things in life now that they have a second chance at it. Everyone tells me about how each morning they wake up and thank God that they have carpet beneath their feet and don't have a guard outside their door. No one ever has a bad day, and because of that they have made going to the halfway house a pleasure and a highlight of my week. I have not encountered any problems at all while spending time there, I have only gained valuable experience and most importantly, perspective. Probably one of the most intriguing conversations I have had with the guys is their perspectives on Sr.Mary and Julia. Each of the guys essentially believes that both of the women walk on water, and rightfully so. One can easily grasp how thankful everyone is for the work and care that both Sr. Mary and Julia put in on a daily basis. I guess the entire dynamic of this house is just something I have never encountered in my few years on earth (everyone's wisdom reminds me of how little I have experienced).
